The October 2011 issue is out

 

The October 2011 issue of Environment and Urbanization is out. The theme of this issue is the importance for urban areas of community action for disaster risk reduction, post-disaster rebuilding and climate change adaptation. It includes papers on:

  • Harnessing the energy of disaster survivors in Asia
  • Disaster risk reduction driven by the Homeless People's Federation of the Philippines
  • Community and local government action on disaster risk reduction and post-disaster rebuilding in Düzce (Turkey), Port-au-Prince, Chittagong and various Latin American and Caribbean cities
  • Coping with flooding in Kurnool, India
  • Participatory climate change adaptation in Kenya and Nicaragua
  • The neglect of urban poverty in the context of climate change in Bangladesh

It also has:

  • an analysis of urban layouts considering whether high density can be combined with good living conditions
  • papers on the microcredit programme of the Orangi Charitable Trust in Pakistan
  • urban governance and health care in Delhi
  • urban governance and land for housing in Mpasatia (Ghana) and
  • developing waste management with waste picker organizations in Brazil.

Future issues of Environment and Urbanization

 

April 2012: Mapping, enumerating and surveying informal settlements and cities. Deadline for submissions: 15 September 2011.

 

October 2012: Addressing poverty and inequality - new forms of urban governance in Asia. Deadline for submissions: 15 March 2012.

April 2013: Gender and urban change. Deadline for submissions: 15 September 2012.

 

There will be supplements in most issues on adapting cities to climate change, and papers may be submitted on this topic at any time.
